Pet of the Month: Meet Max, the Backyard Lifeguard!
Max is an adventurous Labrador Retriever who takes his role as the family’s backyard lifeguard very seriously. Whenever the kids are out splashing around in the pool, Max is right there by the water’s edge, making sure everyone stays safe. With his favorite toy float in his mouth, he watches over the pool like a true professional, barking at any signs of roughhousing. He even jumps in to “rescue” his human siblings if they get too splashy! Max’s watchful eye and playful spirit make him a vital part of every pool day—he’s always on duty, ensuring fun and safety for all! We salute Max for his dedication to protecting his family, one splash at a time.

Autumn Safety Tips for Dogs
As the crisp air and golden leaves take over, it’s important to remember that the change in weather brings new considerations for your pup’s safety. Here are some tips to keep your dog safe and happy this season:
- Beware of ticks: Fall is peak season for ticks, so be sure to continue your pup’s flea and tick treatments even as the temperatures drop. Check your dog after walks in wooded or grassy areas.
- Watch out for mushrooms: Some wild mushrooms popping up in the yard can be toxic to dogs. Keep a close eye on where your pup is sniffing and digging, and remove any suspicious fungi right away.
- Stay visible: With fewer daylight hours, evening walks can get darker quicker than expected. Reflective collars, vests, or LED leashes can help keep both you and your dog visible to others during those early morning or evening outings.
- Be mindful of cold mornings: While it may not be freezing yet, the cooler mornings can be tough on smaller or short-haired dogs. Consider using a dog sweater or jacket if your pet seems to get chilly during early walks.
- Rake with care: Piles of leaves can hide hazards like sharp sticks or harmful debris. Make sure your yard is free of potential dangers when your dog is playing in those fun leaf piles.
- Hydration is still key: Even though it’s cooler outside, dogs still need plenty of water, especially after running around in the fall air. Always have fresh water available for your pet after a walk or playtime.
- Allergies aren’t just for spring: Fall can also trigger seasonal allergies in dogs. If you notice excessive scratching, licking, or sneezing, it might be worth checking with your vet to manage autumn allergies.
With these tips, your pup can fully enjoy the beauty of fall while staying safe and comfortable!
