Summer Walk Safety Tips for Your Pup
We all love those long summer strolls — but your pup’s paws aren’t as tough as your flip-flops! 🩴🔥
With temps rising, it’s important to protect your furry friend from heat-related hazards while still enjoying the sunshine.
Here’s how to keep your walks safe, cool, and tail-waggingly fun:
🐾 The 7-Second Touch Test:
Before heading out, place the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds.
If it’s too hot for you — it’s too hot for your pup’s paws. Opt for grass or shaded trails instead!
🌅 Time It Right:
Walk your dog early in the morning or later in the evening when the ground is cooler and the sun isn’t as harsh (avoid 10am–4pm if possible).
💧 Hydration Station:
Bring water for both you and your dog. Collapsible water bowls or pet-friendly water bottles are great for on-the-go hydration!
😓 Know the Signs of Overheating:
Look out for heavy panting, drooling, confusion, glazed eyes, or slowing down.
If you notice any of these signs, get to a shady area, offer water, and cool them down with a damp towel.
🧴 Protect the Paws:

High-energy games like fetch can quickly lead to overheating. Take frequent breaks and let your dog set the pace.
